Description Uveitis.
The Uveitis/OID Support Group is a patient education and mutual support resource founded in 1996 by faculty, staff, and patients of the Ocular Immunology & Uveitis Service at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. Our mission is to educate patients and their loved ones about ocular inflammatory disease and to facilitate the exchange of information, emotional support, and mutual aid between members. Destructive inflammatory diseases of the eye such as uveitis are the third leading cause of preventable blindness worldwide. Anyone living with uveitis or other form of ocular inflammatory disease is welcome to join us. This free online resource is maintained by volunteer members of the Support Group and is an extension of Uveitis.org   We are indebted to our faculty sponsor, C. Stephen Foster, MD, for his unflinching support of our mission and activities. No medical advice is given here, ever. Uveitis is a potentially blinding illness.   We recommend that patients with uveitis establish a relationship with an ophthalmologist experienced in treating ocular inflammatory disease and consult with that physician before making any diagnostic, treatment, or other healthcare decisions. Both this and our parent site abide by the HONcode principles for medical and health web sites. You are welcome to browse here and at our parent site for educational resources (FILES and BOOKMARKS.) If you think you may be interested in joining us online, please take a moment to review our Uveitis membership guidelines. You will find instructions about how to register at the bottom of the Guidelines file.
